There’s one thing we look forward to the most on the Met Gala Night! Judging the fashion choices of mega icons in our $5 pajamas.
It’s not just about the looks, though. Something about this annual event attracts media folks, influencers, and the common man like a moth to a flame. Met Gala is like a train wreck you can’t look away from! The details, the controversies, the fashion tea – God, it gets us excited just talking about it! What can we say? We live for the drama.
Coming back to the Met Gala 2024 night – it did not disappoint! The red carpet gave us some stunning Met Gala 2024 looks that were quite on the theme. Then there were some looks that honestly made us wonder, “What were they thinking?”
The theme itself was a little questionable, which we will touch upon later. If you are curious about the fashion choices of your favourite celebs and want to know who rocked the red carpet and who did not, read our expert review on Met Gala 2024 looks!
The Met Gala 2024 Theme
The Met Gala 2024 theme was “The Garden of Time,” which took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The theme inspired all the florals in the world to walk the carpet.
We personally found the theme so predictable and lacking in originality that it evoked Meryl Streep’s iconic sarcasm in The Devil Wears Prada: ‘Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking.‘
Now, before you go ahead and accuse organisers of being lazy, there were some real thoughts behind the theme. Apparently, the theme’s name comes from a J.G. Ballard story about a count who uses a rose from his garden to delay time and protect himself from an angry mob.
This story’s dark vibes, along with the event’s focus on blending old and new, inspired a diverse range of Met Gala 2024 looks on the red carpet, from floral designs to futuristic fashion and nods to Sleeping Beauty.
The Best Met Gala 2024 Celebrity Looks That We Are Swooning Over
1. Gigi Hadid in Thom Browne

Gigi Hadid is really the most fashion-forward icon of our time. All her looks are always on point, and her take on the Met Gala 2024 was no different. In true Gigi Fashion, it did justice to the theme and was flattering. The colours, the twirly fabric, the hairstyle, and the bright red lips – all stood out on the red carpet.
2. Lana Del Rey in Alexander McQueen
The Lanatics are going crazy over Lana in custom Alexander McQueen. The fans have been waiting for her best-dressed look since her Born to Die era. True to the theme of the event, Lana showed up as an actual tree with branches poking out of the tulle canopy. Thankfully, no safety hazard occurred due to her dress, which is a plus.
3. Doja Cat in Vetements
Okay, so this might be up for debate. We admit Doja’s white-drenched t-shirt dress look was so off-theme that it was not even in the same book. However, trust Doja Cat to be unabashedly her when it comes to fashion. According to her, cotton is timeless, and there’s no better flower than cotton. Also, like us, she knew people were going to take the theme literally. It looks like she took extreme steps to stand out, which she ultimately did. The glitter tears and blonde pixie cut made her look even edgier.
4. Zendaya in Maison Margiela Artisanal
Zendaya rocked the Maison Margiela couture by John Galliano. The dress gave off a fairy-tale villain vibe which was based on a 1999 Dior dress. The long trumpet skirt of the one-shouldered gown had diagonal stripes of emerald green and royal blue. Her fascinator with tulle feathers and net mesh increased the ante. It was effortlessly one of her most stand-out looks.
5. Emma Chamberlain in Jean Paul Gaultier

Once again, the renowned YouTuber and media personality made a striking statement on the red carpet. As reported by Vogue, her bespoke Gaultier ensemble paid homage to the French fashion house’s iconic designs, notably drawing inspiration from a mocha lace corset featured in the spring 2003 couture collection. Complementing the outfit, her deliberately smudged brown eyeshadow and coordinating lip shade seamlessly tied the entire look together, creating a cohesive and memorable aesthetic.
Weirdest Met Gala 2024 Looks – Honestly! What Were These Celebs Thinking?
Camila Morrone in Chanel

Talk about a casual walk down the red carpet. While we believe Camila Morrone can look stunning even in a trashbag, her look was possibly one of the most casual among all the Met Gala 2024 looks. It was hard to tell how it related to the theme and honestly could have used some homework.
Jessica Serfaty Michel
Jessica was a true example of what Doja Cat feared: celebs taking the theme too literally. We get it. The theme was about a garden, but the actress could have taken the garden term less seriously. The flowery cape could have been more subtle.
Taraji P. Henson in Simkhai
There are some things that are so obvious you would wonder how the designer or even the celebrity wearing it could oversee it. Taraji’s corset could have passed if not for the side panels that were nowhere near her actual skin color. We could have lived without it being exposed, or it at least matched her skin tone. Again, one of the most off-theme Met Gala 2024 looks.
Jordan Roth in custom Valentino
Met Gala 2024’s worst dressed. PERIOD.
Conclusion
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The Met Gala 2024 looks gave us a lot to unwrap. Celebs and designers tried to show the interpretation of the theme to the best of their abilities. Some came up with stunning outfits, while some failed terribly. There were some memorable moments for sure. Not as dramatic as last year’s event, Met Gala 2024 looks was still fun enough to keep us entertained for the next couple of days for sure.
